Actors asking questions, what gel color will help a speech to have a compassionate audience reaction?
Many things beyond talent and looks go into a winning performance. Knowiing what tech is best for your character is one of those things. Finding your light is another.
I find it “interesting” that three actors came in on this. There must thirty “actors” a day asking how to get on stage. It’s nice to see some interest in what can make an actor look good. As a tech and Director, etc. I’ve always watched for actors (M/F) that knew what would make them look good, because then the show looks even better.
I doubt many new actors even know what a walk around is during tech week. I knew some who would know every dead spot and Hot spot on stage as well as any transition shadow that could make them look bad. Sometimes, I didn’t like them, but I respected them.
Bastard Amber aka Roscoe #02 is commonly used when a designer wants to warm up a scene without affecting the colors of anything else onstage. You definitely want something in the peach range, not too yellow, not too orange and not too red, if you’re talking about just being received well. If you’re talking compassionate response as in sadness or grief, you want something bluish or purplish. But for just making the audience feel comfortable and receptive to what you’re saying, Bastard Amber. Definitely.
